Match round-up - Second Division A, Day 7

Reus were a goal up against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday evening and just a minute or so away from a place in the direct promotion spots, but in the end they had to settle for a 1-1 draw after the Madrid based side scrambled a last gasp equalizer. Folch had given the Catalans the lead midway through the first half following a corner, but Amaya forced the ball over the line after Badía failed to hold on to a Javi Guerra shot to give the visitors their first away point of the season. Reus are still unbeaten though with three wins and four draws, the same as Lugo and also Mirandés, who are up to fourth after a 3-2 victory over Tenerife. Alvaro Bustos scored twice for the locals in the first quarter of an hour, but Suso got one back for the Canary Islanders soon after the break. Guarrotxena restored the two goal cushion with a shot from the edge of the area however, and although Jouini got on the end of Lozano’s cross to score a second for the visitors with twenty minutes to go, the home side held on for the three points. Zaragoza drop to sixth though after they lost 2-1 at neighbours Numancia. Juan Muñoz actually gave the Maños the lead with ten minutes to go to the break, but Manu del Moral headed in a Julio Alvarez centre to equalize on the stroke of half time, and Nacho fired home the winner after Alvarez set him up at the start of the second half.

UCAM Murcia are now just a point below Zaragoza in seventh place after they drew 0-0 at Mallorca. Goalkeeper Biel Ribas was partly to thank after a string of saves, the last from Dalmau at the end, but it was a second goal-less draw for the Balearic Islanders, who have only scored two and let in three in their seven games to date. Yawn! Girona are up to ninth after they won 0-2 at Getafe, a result which cost the job of local coach Juan Eduardo Esnáider, who was fired a few hours after the game ended. Longo fired the Catalans in to the lead from Portu’s assist on the quarter hour mark, and some seven minutes later the locals were left with ten men when Rolf Fetscher was rather harshly sent off for a foul on borja García. Alcaraz added a second with twenty minutes to go, and to make matters worse Scepovic missed a penalty late on for the hosts, who find themselves in next to bottom spot. Oviedo move away from the danger zone though after they won 0-2 at Cádiz in the Sunday mid-day kick-off, and they end the weekend level with the Andalusians in mid-table. Toché opened the scoring on the quarter hour mark following a corner, and then crossed in for Linares to make it two some five minutes later. Both teams ended with ten men though after Erice and then Eddy were sent off within a minute of each other for hard tackles on opponents. (25.09.16)

Levante hold on to top spot for another week after a 0-1 victory at local rivals Elche on Saturday evening. Guillermo wasted a chance to give the locals the lead shortly before half time, but just two minutes in to the second half ex Sevilla and Crystal Palace midfielder Campaña got what was to prove the winner with a well struck free kick. Córdoba are now second pending Sunday’s games after they won 2-0 against bottom club Nàstic. Rodri got both goals for the Andalusians either side of half time, the first after latching on to a loose ball close to goal, and the second with an angled shot past Saja, who prevented the striker from completing a hat-trick later on. Córdoba climb above Lugo, who maintained their unbeaten record this season thanks to a 0-0 draw at Almería. Valladolid are in free fall however, and they drop in to the bottom half of the table after they lost 1-2 at home to Huesca. Raúl de Tomás gave Paco Herrera’s team the lead early on in the second half, but Camacho headed the equalizer soon afterwards, and Samu Saíz converted a penalty after Guitián fouled Borja Lázaro in the area to hand their hosts a fourth defeat in a row. Huesca move out of the relegation spots right up to eleventh, but Alcorcón stay in the drop zone after they drew 1-1 at Sevilla Atlético in the first game of the weekend. The youngsters started the day a point above their opponents, and Borja Lasso put them in front in the twentieth minute. David Rodríguez got on the end of a Bellvis cross to equalize at the start of the second half, but although Curro Sánchez was sent off minutes later, the locals held on for a valuable point after that.
