Match round-up - Second Division A, Day 24

Levante maintain their seven point lead at the top after a 2-1 victory over bottom club Nàstic on a windy Sunday evening. Roger got the opener after connecting with Toño’s cross on the hour mark, and Morales made it two soon afterwards with an angled shot past Reina. However Juan Delgado got one back for the visitors a few minutes later, and there were some nervous moments for the home fans before the final whistle. Second placed Girona also won later in the evening, a 2-1 victory over Valladolid keeping them five points clear of third placed Cádiz. The Catalans had won their last five games in the Montilivi stadium, and Coris put them ahead with a long shot past Pau Torres midway through the first half. With twelve minutes left on the clock the visiting keeper made a dreadful mistake, kicking at air to allow a Guitián back pass to roll back in to the net, and a strike by substitute Raúl de Tomás came too late to change the result.

Getafe slip a place to fifth after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Reus. It was a controversial game, Jorge Molina giving the visitors the lead from the penalty spot with ten minutes to go to the break, and Edgar Hernández making it all square with a second penalty midway through the second half. Three players were sent off (as well as visiting coach Bordalás) for second bookable offences, Reus midfielder López Garai before the interval, and Cala and Molinero for the Madrid based side in the second half. Oviedo are back up to the brink of the play-off spots after they beat Mallorca 2-1 in the mid-day kick-off, David Costas heading the winner from a corner with twenty minutes to go. Toché had given the Asturians an early lead with an overhead kick, but Raillo levelled it for the visitors before the break. The islanders end the weekend down in the bottom four, a point above Almería, who were beaten 1-0 by Rayo Vallecano. Fran Vélez put through his own net in the sixth minute, and Gazzaniga saved a Fidel penalty to give Rubén Baraja’s side their first win in 2017. (05.02.17)

Third placed Cádiz moved to within two points of the direct promotion spots pending Sunday’s games after they came from behind to beat struggling Mirandés 2-1 on Saturday evening. Guarrotxena headed in Kijera’s wind-assisted corner in only the fourth minute, but Salvi hit the bar before setting up Abdullah for the equalizer before the break, and Ortuño got on the end of Aitor’s cross to chest in the winner with twelve minutes to go. Tenerife meanwhile are up to fourth, three points below Cádiz, after they won 2-0 against Elche. Amath got both the goals either side of half time, the first from Lozano’s headed pass and the second after intercepting a pass from Pelegrín, and Pelegrín himself was sent off with twenty minutes to go.

Lugo are back in the play-off spots, for 24 hours at least after a 1-0 victory against Córdoba, Joselu getting the only goal with a deflected shot some five minutes before the break. Numancia stay two points below the Galicians after a 2-3 win at Alcorcón despite going behind to an early goal from David Rodríguez. A Dani Calvo strike and a Julio Alvarez penalty either side of half time turned the scoreline around however, and Alvarez added a third before Rodríguez reduced the gap with a second penalty near the end. Zaragoza also won 2-3 at neighbours Huesca later in the evening, a much needed three points for under pressure coach Raúl Agné. All the goals came after the interval, Borja Lázaro opening the scoring for the locals, but Dongou, Angel and Dongou again netting for the Maños before Alexander González completed the scoring in injury time. Two of the newly promoted sides met on Friday evening, UCAM Murcia beating Sevilla Atlético 1-0 to climb out of the relegation spots pending the rest of the weekend games. Jona latched on to Vicente’s cross to score the only goal of the game at the start of the second half, and only a couple of good saves by Caro prevented Nono and Collantes from adding to the lead later on.
