Second Division B - play-offs, day 4

Both losers from the group champions play-offs are still in with another chance of promotion after they made it through to the regular play-off finals, Albacete joining Barcelona B in the final four after a 2-1 victory over Atlético Baleares on Sunday lunchtime. Rubén Jurado actually gave the Mallorca based side the lead some ten minutes in to the second half, but Aketxe equalized to take the tie in to extra time, and with a penalty shoot out approaching, David Prieto deflected an attempted clearance by keeper Aulestia in to his own net to take the Manchegans through. Albacete already know that their opponents in their final will be Valencia Mestalla after they knocked out Real Murcia later in the evening, competition rules dictating that the Ches cannot play against Barcelona B as they are from the same regional group. Some 20,000 fans turned up at the New Condomina stadium hoping for their side to overturn a 2-1 defeat from the first leg, but the Valencia B team held on for a 0-0 draw which, after UCAM’s relegation the day before, leaves the city of Murcia without second division football next season. By default, Barça B’s rivals in their play off final will be Racing Santander, the Cantabrians thrashing Villanovense 4-0 in a packed Sardinero stadium to cancel out the 2-0 defeat from a week ago. Beobide got the opener for the locals with a deflected shot midway through the first half, and Castañeda, Abdón and Santi Jara added three more in a seven minute period later on in the second half. Barcelona B are the first team in to the play-off finals after they knocked out Cartagena on the away goal rule, the Catalans going through despite a 0-1 defeat in the return leg on Saturday evening. The visitors had the better of the first half, and they took the lead with a Sergio García penalty after García himself was tripped by Palencia in the area with ten minutes to go. However the 1-2 result from the first leg was enough to see Gerard’s side through in the end. (10.06.17)
