Alas it was not to be! Celta are close to being knocked out of the Europa League after a 0-1 defeat against Manchester United on Thursday evening. Daniel Wass failed to convert a couple of chances for the locals early on, but only a string of saves by Sergio Alvarez from Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Lingard kept the scoreline unmoved at the break. Iago Aspas headed wide after the restart, and Romero had to tip a deflected shot from Pione Sisto over the bar, but midway through the second half Rashford got what was to prove the only goal with a well struck free kick. The Galicians have had to overcome poor first leg results in every tie in the knock out stages though, in particular overturning a similar defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk, so who is to say that they can’t do it again at Old Trafford next week?
