No problems for Real Madrid in their opening game on Wednesday, the double-defending champions beating APOEL Nicosia 3-0. Ronaldo (back in the side after his forced lay-off in the league) connected with Bale’s cross following a good run by Isco to open the scoring early on. Roberto Lago had tested Keylor Navas before that, but from then on the visitors hardly troubled the local keeper, and Ronaldo hit the bar soon after the restart before scoring his second from the penalty spot after Lago handled in the area. With an hour on the clock Sergio Ramos made it three with an acrobatic overhead kick after Bale headed back Marcelo’s long cross, and Ronaldo and Borja Mayoral both had goals ruled out for offside in the closing minutes.
