Latest transfers

The transfer market is already in full swing, and all clubs are now moving to make up their squads for next season. A few years ago Real Madrid’s policy was paraphrased as signing “Zidanes” (i.e. “Galacticos”) and “Pavónes” (home-grown players). Now Zidane himself is in charge though they are going more for the “Pavones”, with Marcos Llorente, Jesús Vallejo and Borja Mayoral brought back home, and under 21 stars Theo Hernández and Dani Ceballos joining the club. James, Pepe and Mariano move on though to make room, and Zidane’s son Enzo is amongst the talented youngsters who are being farmed out to get experience. Madrid’s neighbours Atlético can’t sign this summer of course due to the FIFA ban, but they are finding a way around that, in particular loaning some €37 million to Las Palmas for them to pay Vitolo’s buy-out clause to Sevilla. The Spanish international will only play for his old club for six months though, and will then be transferred on to Atleti when the ban ends in January (apparently all legally checked and approved with FIFA). Diego Costa may well be the next to follow a similar route.

Elsewhere Barcelona have given up fighting for Bellerín after Arsenal put up the shutters, and they have signed Benfica’s Nelson Semedo (not to be confused with Villarreal’s new signing Rubén Semedo) to fill the right back position. Sevilla meanwhile have moved quickly to cover the absence of Vitolo, signing Nolito from Manchester City, and also tying up Muriel, Pizarro and Corchia (and bringing back Banega), and their city rivals Betis have added Guardado, Barragán and Jordi Amat to their squad. Other notable moves in the last couple of weeks have been Janujaz (Manchester United to Real Sociedad), .Granero (Real Sociedad to Espanyol), Borja Bastón and Roberto (from Swansea and Espanyol to Málaga), and Bakkali (Valencia to Deportivo), and Yuri, Kameni, Iborra, Camacho, Mathieu, Rubén Castro, Rami and Ochoa, are amongst those who will be leaving us.
