Champions League, day two

Barcelona made it two wins out of two after a 0-1 victory at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday. The Catalans had their problems though, and the only goal came when Coates put through his own net after Luis Suárez headed on a Messi free kick at the start of the second half. Elsewhere Atlético Madrid end the second round of games down in third place in their difficult group after they lost 1-2 at home to Chelsea. Griezmann gave Simeone’s side a first half lead from the penalty spot after David Luiz fouled Lucas Hernández in the area, but Morata headed the equaliser on the hour mark, and Batshuayi connected with a cross from Marcos Alonso to score the winner in injury time. Good results for Spanish sides in Tuesday’s Champions League games! Real Madrid won 1-3 at Borussia Dortmund, with Gareth Bale opening the scoring in the first half after Dani Carvajal set him up, and Cristiano Ronaldo adding two more after the restart with assists from Bale and Modric. Aubameyang got one back in between Ronaldo’s goals, but Madrid end the day joint leaders with Tottenham, who have an identical record after the first two rounds of fixtures. Sevilla meanwhile beat Maribor 3-0 to move to the top of their group, Ben Yedder helping himself to a hat-trick, two goals later on in the first half, and a penalty near the end. (26.09.17)
