Match round-up - Second Division A, Day 14

Cádiz moved back up into the top half of the table after a 1-0 victory over Reus in the Monday night game. Carrillo headed the only goal from a corner with half an hour gone to take the Andalusians a point above their opponents in the rankings. (13.11.17)

Huesca end the weekend at the top of the table after the three teams immediately below them all failed to win on Sunday. Sporting Gijón were held to a 1-1 draw by Valladolid, Scepovic heading the Asturians into the lead from Calavera’s cross in the fourth minute, but Luismi heading the equaliser from a corner with a quarter of an hour to go. Lugo were beaten 0-1 by Numancia (who leapfrog above their hosts to third), Manu del Moral firing home the only goal with just over half an hour on the clock. And last week’s leaders Granada surprisingly lost 1-2 to bottom club Sevilla Atlético in the mid-day game, Fede getting the winner midway through the second half after Joselu had cancelled out Curro’s early penalty to give the visitors their first victory of the season. The result takes the youngsters above Córdoba on goal difference, both teams now five points below Nàstic, who were dragged back into the relegation battle after a last gasp 1-3 defeat against Oviedo. Aarón Ñíguez gave the Asturians the three points with an injury time penalty after Manu Barreiro had opened the scoring with another penalty, and Carlos Hernández (who was sent off near the end) had levelled it for the visitors with twenty minutes to go. Osasuna’s stay at the top of the table only lasted 24 hours, Huesca overtaking them on Saturday after they beat Barcelona B 0-2. Cucho Hernández got both goals after the break, the first with a direct free kick, and the second after picking up a pass from Ferreiro. Rayo Vallecano stay outside of the top six though after they lost 3-2 to Zaragoza, the Madrid based side going two down at the break thanks to a Grippo header and a strike from Aleix Febas. Goals from Raúl de Tomás and Trejo pegged them back after the restart, but Pombo got the winner for the Maños late on.

Meanwhile Tenerife close back up on the play-off spots after they beat Cultural Leonesa 2-0, the result leaving the visitors just three points above the drop zone. Both goals came in the first ten minutes, Malbasic beating Jesús with less than a minute gone, and Longo getting the second after the keeper saved a penalty from Suso. Lorca picked up their first point away from home after they drew 1-1 at Alcorcón in the lunchtime game, Javi Muñoz getting a late equaliser after Dorca had given the locals a seventh minute lead. That took the Murcia based side out of the relegation spots, although they dropped back into the bottom four after Albacete beat Almería later in the day. Dani Rodríguez and Zozulya got the goals either side of half time to leave their opponents down in third to bottom spot. (11.11.17)

Osasuna moved back to the top of the second division, overnight at least, a 0-1 victory at Córdoba on Friday evening ending a run of four draws in a row for the Pamplona based side. Ex Córdoba striker Xisco headed the only goal from a Coris cross some four minutes in to the second half, and Roberto Torres and Quique González came close to increasing the lead later on. The Andalusians have now only picked up one point from their last six games, the last four under new coach Juan Merino, and they could end the weekend at the foot of the table if Sevilla Atlético win on Sunday.
