Match round-up - Second Division A, Day 16

Leaders Huesca were beaten 2-0 by Granada on Sunday, two goals in as many minutes by Joselu and Machís around the half hour mark taking the Andalusians up to third, now just two points below their hosts in the table. Lugo moved up level with Huesca in second spot after they won 1-0 against Osasuna, Christian Herrera getting the only goal with a quarter of an hour to go, but Sporting Gijón stay a point below the top six after they drew 2-2 at Albacete, two second half strikes from Michael Santos overturning Zozulya’s opener, but a Gaffoor header saving a point for the Manchegans near the end. The other two matches in the second division ended all square, Barcelona B drawing 1-1 with Almería in the mid-day kick-off, and Córdoba and Cultural Leonesa drawing 2-2 later in the evening. Cádiz are up to second pending Sunday’s games after a 1-0 win over Valladolid on Saturday, Alex Fernández getting the only goal in the fifth minute. Numancia are now four points below the Andalusians however after they lost 3-1 at Oviedo, Higinio cancelling out Carlos Hernández’s opener, but a Dani Calvo own goal and a strike from Linares giving the Asturians three points which takes them up to tenth. Zaragoza and Reus drew 0-0, as did Alcorcón and Sevilla Atlético, and Lorca beat Nàstic 0-2 to move to the verge of escaping the drop zone as a result. (25.11.17)

Rayo Vallecano missed out on a chance to go second in the table after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Tenerife on Friday evening. The Madrid based side took the lead twice, Santi Comesaña putting them back in front after a Longo header had cancelled out Aguirre’s early opener.The visitors were left with ten men however when Comesaña was sent off for a foul on Aitor Sanz, and Longo equalised again with another header from Alvedaño’s assist near the end.
