Match round-up - First Division, Day 13

Espanyol moved away from the lower reaches of the table after a 1-0 victory over Getafe in the Monday night game. Gerard Moreno got the only goal after the break from a Piatti free kick to take the Catalans level on points with their opponents. (27.11.17)

A 1-1 draw on Sunday between the top two, Valencia and Barcelona, the result keeping the Catalans four points clear of their hosts in the table. Messi had an early goal incorrectly ruled out by the referee, but after the restart Rodrigo put the Ches in front before Jordi Alba made it all square near the end. Sevilla were the only team to win on Sunday, the Andalusians consolidating fifth place after they came from two down to win 2-3 at sixth placed Villarreal. Real Sociedad are still two points below Villarreal after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Las Palmas, who themselves move off the foot of the table as a result, and Deportivo and Athletic Bilbao also drew 2-2 earlier in the day to open up a five point gap over the bottom three. With the top two playing each other on Sunday, the two Madrid sides took advantage to close the gap a bit on their rivals. Real Madrid had a few problems however before running out 3-2 winners against struggling Málaga, the visitors coming back twice to draw before Ronaldo fired home a late winner after Roberto had saved his penalty kick. Atlético though cruised through 0-5 at Levante, Gameiro and Griezmann scoring two each to take Simeone’s side above neighbours Real on goal difference. Elsewhere Betis and Girona drew 2-2 in a match which saw both teams score in injury time, and Eibar won 1-2 at Alavés to leave the Vitoria based side further adrift in the drop zone. (25.11.17)

One match on Friday evening, Celta climbing to within four points of the European spots after a 1-0 victory over Leganés in a rainy Balaidos stadium. Iago Aspas got the only goal from the penalty spot midway through the first half after Jonny was brought down by Erik Morán, and only a string of saves by Cuéllar, in particular from Aspas, Jonny and Guidetti, prevented the locals from winning by a bigger margin. The result takes the Galicians level with their opponents in the table. (24.11.17)
