Match round-up - Second Division, Day 20

Leaders Huesca end 2017 looking good for a first ever promotion to the top flight after a 1-2 win at Nàstic on Saturday. Avila and Jair got the goals for Rubi’s team, and an injury time volley from Maikel Mesa came too late to change the result. Huesca are now three points clear of the rest, but only three points separate the next six sides after Oviedo beat Cultural Leonesa 3-0 to go third on goal difference ahead of Rayo and Numancia. Aarón Ñíguez started things off for the Asturians early on, and Carlos Hernández and Cotugno added two more after the break. (23.12.17)

Rayo Vallecano are putting in their bid for a return to the top flight, and a 1-2 win at Lugo on Friday took them up to third place. Unai López and Raúl de Tomás put the Madrid based side two up before Luis Ruíz got one back. Elsewhere Alcorcón beat Almería 2-0 with goals from Dorca and Jonathan Pereira to move up safely to mid-table. (22.12.17)

Cádiz’s run of eight wins in a row came to an end when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Tenerife on Thursday. Juan Villar saved a point for the Canary Islanders late on after Garrido had given the Andalusians the lead. Cádiz stay second, but Numancia are just a point below them after they won 3-0 against bottom club Sevilla Atlético, Manu del Moral, Marc Mateu and Nacho getting the goals in the last ten minutes or so after Konyk was sent off. Granada are up to third pending the remaining fixtures after a 2-1 win over Sporting Gijón on Wednesday, a Joselu penalty and an Alex Pérez own goal putting the locals two up before Michael Santos headed one back in injury time. Osasuna are back in the running for the top six after they won 0-1 at Lorca, Coris getting the goal there, and Córdoba moved off the bottom of the table after thrashing Reus 5-0, with a hat-trick from Sergi Guardiola and two more from Aguza. The last round of games of the calendar year are being spread over five days, with two games on Tuesday evening to start things off. Valladolid moved to within three points of the play-off spots after a 3-2 win over Zaragoza, the locals going three up with just over half an hour gone through Anuar, Mikel González (in his own net) and Mata before the Maños pegged two back. Barcelona B end the year in the relegation zone however after they lost 0-1 to Albacete, Nili Perdomo getting the goal for the Manchegans against his old side. (19.12.17)
