Match round-up - Second Division, Day 21

Huesca stay a point clear at the top of the table after a 1-1 draw against Oviedo on Sunday. The Aragón based side are unbeaten at home this season, and Gallar gave them the lead on the half hour mark. However Aarón Ñíguez made it all square with twenty minutes to go to keep the Asturians in third place, level with Numancia, who drew 2-2 at Cultural Leonesa. Emi Buendía and Josep Señé put the locals two up, but strikes by Iñigo Pérez and Higinio saved a point for the Sorianos. Lugo drop out of the top six though after they lost 1-0 at Almería, local keeper René saving a late Fede Vico penalty before Alcaraz got the winner with a direct free kick in the ninetieth minute.

At mid-day Osasuna and Valladolid played out the game postponed from the day before, the locals running out 4-2 victors for their first win in the Sadar stadium in almost three months. At one point they were 1-2 down to two strikes from Mata, but David Rodríguez also scored twice to take the Pamplona based side three points above their opponents, and two off the play-off places. Tenerife are now level with Valladolid after they won 1-2 at Albacete, Casadesús getting the winner with three minutes to go, and bottom club Sevilla Atlético finally clocked up their second victory of the season, a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Lorca leaving both on 16 points together with Córdoba, all seven points away from safety at the mid-point of the season. Cádiz are level with Huesca at the top of the second division pending Sunday’s fixtures after a 1-0 victory over Granada on Saturday evening. The locals started the game two points ahead of their neighbours, but Kecojevic headed in a Salvi free kick with just under half an hour gone to extend their unbeaten run to ten games. Rayo Vallecano stay four points behind the leaders after they were beaten 2-3 by Nàstic. Maikel Mesa gave the Catalans an early lead. And although Embarba made it all square, Manu Barreiro headed the visitors back in front on the half hour mark. Raúl de Tomás missed a penalty before Trejo converted a second spot kick with two minutes to go, but Barrerio headed the winner in injury time.

Sporting Gijón move back to within four points of the play-off spots after they beat struggling Córdoba 3-2. Carlos Castro and Michael Santos put the Asturians two up in the first twenty minutes, but Aguza got one back after the restart. Santos scored again with a header soon afterwards, but Sergi Guardiola replied for the Andalusians with just over an hour gone, and the result was in doubt right up to the end. Reus and Alcorcón stay in mid-table after they drew 1-1, Olmo saving a point for the locals in injury time after David Fernández had given the visitors a first half lead, and Zaragoza and Barcelona B also drew 1-1, youngster Abel Ruíz opening the scoring for the Catalans early on in the second half, and Guti equalising with a long shot a few minutes later. The match between Osasuna and Valladolid was postponed however due to a heavy snow fall in Pamplona, the fixture rescheduled for mid-day tomorrow, weather permitting. (06.01.18)
