Champions League, round of 16, first leg

Sevilla 0 – Manchester United 0

A great performance by Manchester United’s De Gea deprived Sevilla of a first leg advantage. The Spanish international keeper in particular made spectacular saves from headers by N’Zonzi and Muriel shortly before the break, and also kept out Correa, Lenglet and others at other points in the game. Lukaku had a goal disallowed for a previous hand ball, and Rashford fired a couple of efforts wide later on, but Mourinho’s side came out unscathed, and must now be favourites for the return leg in Old Trafford. Chelsea 1 - Barcelona 1

Messi’s first goal in nine games against Chelsea gave Barcelona a 1-1 draw in their Champions League first leg tie. Although the Catalans dominated in the opening minutes, Willian hit the post twice for the locals before the break, and with just over an hour gone he curled a shot past Ter Stegen to open the scoring. However with a quarter of an hour to go Iniesta intercepted a sloppy pass from Christensen to set up Messi for the equaliser, and everything will now be decided in the Nou Camp in three weeks’ time.
