Europa League, semi finals, first leg

Arsenal 1 - Atlético Madrid 1

The city of Madrid may well have a team in each of the European finals this year, Atlético Madrid following up on Real’s victory yesterday with a 1-1 draw at Arsenal in Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg. Simeone’s team were up against it early on when Vrsaljko was sent off with only ten minutes on the clock after picking up two quick yellow cards, and the coach himself was also shown a red card for protesting a few minutes later. Oblak and his defence held on though until the break, but although Griezmann did test Ospina a couple of times at the other end, Lacazette headed the Premier League in front from Wilshire’s cross on the hour mark. With eight minutes to go however Griezmann ran on past Koscielny to pick up a long clearance and poke a shot in off Mustafi, and in the dying minutes Oblak produced the save of the night from Wilshire’s header to ensure the draw.
