Atlético Madrid’s best chance of a title this season is in the Europa League, and they are close to a place in the semi-finals after beating Sporting Lisbon 2-0 on Thursday. With only 20 seconds gone they were already one up, Diego Costa intercepting a poor pass by Coates to set up Koke, and later in the first half Mathieu let Saúl’s pass through his legs to allow Griezmann to run on and make it two. Costa could have added to the lead after the break, but Oblak had to save from Gelson and Bryan Ruíz at the other end to ensure his side’s ninth clean sheet in a row in the Metropolitan stadium.
