Villarreal struggled a bit against Sporting Lisbon, especially after a strike by Bruno Fernandes just before the break cancelled out their first leg lead. The Portuguese side were left with ten men though after Jefferson was sent off soon after the restart, and a goal by Pablo Fornals with ten minutes to go saw them through.
