Champions League – day 3

Barcelona consolidated top spot of their group after a 1-2 win at Slavia Prague on Wednesday. Messi combined with Arthur to open the scoring with only three minutes gone, but Ter Stegen had to make a string of saves before Boril levelled the scores soon after the break. Soon afterwards though Olayinka turned a Luis Suárez shot into his own net, and the Catalans could have won by a bigger margin had Messi and Suárez not missed chances later on. Valencia though are now down to third in their group after they drew 1-1 at Lille. Cheryshev gave the Ches the lead following a Gameiro assist with just over an hour on the clock, but Diakhaby got himself sent off near the end, and with the game in the fifth and final minute of time added on, Ikoné saved a point for the hosts. Single goal victories for both Madrid sides on Tuesday night, Atlético Madrid kicking things off with a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the early game. Chances were few and far between though until substitute Morata headed in Lodi’s cross with twelve minutes to go. Simeone’s side stay joint top of their group, level with Juventus on seven points. Later in the evening Real Madrid beat Galatasaray 0-1, Kroos firing home the only goal after Hazard laid the ball back in the opening minutes, and Courtois making some important saves to give his team their first win of the competition.
