Champions League – day 6

Spain will have four teams in next Monday’s draw after Atlético Madrid won 2-0 against Lokomotiv Moscow on Wednesday. The visiting keeper saved an early Trippier penalty before Joao Félix converted a second spot kick on the quarter hour mark, and Felipe connected with Koke’s cross to make it two some ten minutes in to the second half. Atleti only finish second in the group though, as do Real Madrid, who beat Club Brugge 1-3. With little at stake, Zidane also put out a weakened side, and although Vanaken cancelled out Rodrygo’s second half opener, Vinicius and Modric added two more to give their side a first ever away win against the Belgians. Valencia are through to the knock-out stage of the competition after they beat Ajax 0-1 in their last group game on Tuesday! The Ches had to win to be sure of qualifying, but Rodrigo put them in front midway through the first half after Ferran set him up, and Jaume and his defence held fast despite having Gabriel Paulista sent off to finish top of their group. Barcelona were already sure of first place in their group, and Valverde put out a much changed line-up for the visit to Inter Milan. Even so they still won 1-2 to dump the Italians out of the competition, youngsters Carles Pérez and Ansu Fati getting the goals, with Lukaku levelling it temporarily for the hosts. (10.12.19)
