Copa del Rey - semi finals, first leg

An all-Basque cup final is on the cards after Real Sociedad beat second division Mirandés 2-1 in the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday, although both ties are in fact still in the balance. The hosts went in front with an early Oyarzabal penalty after Odei was adjudged to have fouled Portu in the area, but Matheus made it all square with a deflected shot after Malsa set him up with five minutes to go to half time. Odegaard fired them back in front though a couple of minutes later, but the visitors held on to give themselves a chance of reaching the final for the first time in their history. (12.02.20)

The first legs of the cup semi-finals are taking place this week, Athletic Bilbao getting a slight advantage over Granada after they beat them 1-0 on Tuesday. The Basques were the better team in the first half, and they took the lead shortly before the break when Williams crossed in for Muniain to beat Rui Silva. Capa got the ball in the net after the restart only for the strike to be ruled out for the positional offside of Williams, but after that Unai Simón had to make a couple of important saves to keep his side ahead.
