Sevilla bounced back from their defeats in the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League qualifiers with a much needed 1-4 over Levante on the opening day of the season. Things looked grim for Antonio Alvarez's side when they went a goal down with only ten minutes on the clock, Rubén Suárez converting a penalty after Cigarini blocked a wide free kick with his hand. But only a minute later Munúa was forced to push Negredo's header round the post, and from the resulting corner the ball came back to Jesús Navas. The Spanish international winger drove in a low shot which came back off the post, and Konko reacted quicker than anyone to turn a shot back past the keeper.

A quarter of an hour later Sevilla were given a penalty of their own when referee Pérez Lasa ruled that Cerra's foul on Perotti was inside the area, and Negredo stepped up to put the Andalusians in front. And from then on it was plain sailing, Konko getting his second of the night after a quick passing move, and Renato heading the fourth after substitute José Carlos set him up with virtually his first touch of the ball. Munúa did well to keep out Kanouté after that, but the result was well beyond doubt, and Alvarez has some breathing space, for the time being at least.
