Espanyol got off to their best start to a season in ten years, running out 3-1 winners over Getafe to begin the new campaign in the top four. Despite a gruelling midweek Europa League qualifier, the visitors started well, with Miku trying his luck a couple of times. But with just over half an hour gone Verdú and Callejón combined to set up Osvaldo to open the scoring, and the striker got his second of the evening a few minutes after the restart after picking up a poor clearance from Miguel Torres after Verdú had played in a corner. Michel's side got one back though when Galán turned Manu's cross past his own keeper, and Colunga hit the post with a few minutes to go. But with the game in injury time new signing Dátolo wrapped things up after connecting with another Callejón cross following a quick break-away.
