Valencia consolidated third spot after coming from behind to beat sixth placed Athletic Bilbao 1-2 on Sunday evening. The rain in the San Mamés favoured the home side, and Llorente tested Guaita a couple of times before picking up Toquero's pass to hold off his marker and open the scoring with just under a quarter of an hour gone. Honours were shared after that for the rest of the first half, but Athletic were on top again after the restart, with Toquero testing the keeper again and Llorente hitting the post. However with twenty minutes to go a good team move ended with Joaquín setting up Mata to equalise, and new signing Jonás got the winner for the visitors ten minutes later after Iraizoz failed to hold on to a long shot from Tino Costa.
