Villarreal are now surely firm favourites for the fourth Champions League spot after a 1-0 victory over Zaragoza on Monday took them nine points clear of fifth placed Athletic. Once again a Rossi penalty decided the match, the United States born Italian striker converting the resulting spot kick after Ponzio slid in to him with twenty minutes to go. Earlier on though only brilliant performances by both keepers had kept the scoreline unchanged, Doblas in particular making first class saves from Rossi and Nilmar before the break, and Diego López keeping out Uche a couple of times either side of half time. The visitors ended with ten men when Uche was given a second booking for what the referee considered was a dive in the area in the last minute, and the Maños end the weekend in the bottom three, below Málaga on head-to-head goal difference.
