Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 2-1 in the last match on Saturday evening to stay seven points behind leaders Real Madrid. With league and cup games coming in quick succession, Guardiola freshened up his side with players from the B team. And it was one of the young talents who opened the scoring early on, Tello running on to Messi's through ball to clip a shot past Bravo in the ninth minute. Messi had come up against the visiting keeper before that, and he and Thiago both tested him again later in the first half, and Fàbregas and Alves both failed to hit the target before the break. Real's only chance in the first half came early on when Valdés saved well from Ifrán, and the local number one was in action soon after the interval to keep out Griezmann. Messi should have scored after that two or three times, and in another incident Cuenca hit the bar and Tello's follow up hit Dani Alves in an offside position on its way in to the net. Eventually Messi did get his name on the scoresheet, but two minutes later Carlos Vela scored at the other end, and there were some nervous moments before the referee finally blew the whistle to end the game.
