Espanyol beat Racing Santander 3-1 in the Monday night game to move above Osasuna to sixth spot. The Cantabrians struck first though, Stuani turning in an Adrián González cross in only the twelfth minute. That was about all they could muster however, and twenty minutes later Pochettino's side were ahead, Verdú firing a long shot over the head of Toño, and Coutinho beating the keeper for a second time after Sergio García's cross came back out to him. Racing were left with ten men when Marcos Gullón picked up a second booking early on in the second half, and although Kennedy added some spice to proceedings, Héctor Moreno wrapped things up with a third goal after Coutinho headed a long corner back in to the six yard box. It was a second defeat for new coach Alvaro Cervera, and his side find themselves even further down in the bottom three.
