Second Division - Day 11

Hércules opened up a six point gap at the top of the second division after beating Córdoba 1-0 in the first match on Saturday evening. Chances were few and far between, the best of the first half when Sardinero got free on goal only to shhot straight at keeper Alberto. Three minutes after the restart the Andalusians were left with ten men when referee Pino Zamorano (who produced thirteen yellow cards in all) booked Fuentes for the second time. But although the locals pushed forward after that, they didn't trouble the visiting defence until a quarter of an hour from the end, when Aguilar and Sanchón combined to set up Urko Vera for his second match winner in four days. Six wins in a row now for Juan Carlos Mandiá's side, and they look to be on the fast track for a quick return to the top flight.

No less than six of the eight games which were played on Saturday were decided by a single goal, with Almería moving up to second spot after a 0-1 win at regional neighbours Xerez later in the evening. Visiting keeper Esteban did well to save from Capi and Robusté before the break, but after the restart it was the turn of Doblas to keep out Rafita and Ulloa. With a quarter of an hour to go Goitom and Aleix Vidal combined for Soriano to score what was to prove the winner, although it took another late save by Esteban from Iñigo Vélez to ensure the three points for Lucas Alcaraz's side.

Sabadell drop out of the direct promotion spots after a 2-2 draw against Alcoyano, although once again they were thankful to at least get a point after Toni Lao headed the equaliser following a corner in the third minute of injury time. Gato had given the visitors the lead in the twentieth minute with an impressive shot which went in off the crossbar, and although Florian made it all square a couple of minutes later with a header from Lanza's cross, Gato put his side back in front with a diving header from a Devesa centre with less than half an hour gone.

Sabadell move two points clear of Valladolid, who were beaten 1-0 by Las Palmas in the last match of the evening. Djukic's side had the better of the first half, Laguardia clearing a shot from Javi Guerra off the line with keeper Barbosa beaten, and Sisi firing an effort just wide of the post. But with the visitors on top again after the restart, a set-piece David González free kick left Jonathan Viera free to score. The win takes the Canary Islanders in to the promotion spots, level now with their opponents on points.

Alcorcón are back to within a point of the play-off spots after a 1-0 victory over neighbours Guadalajara, despite playing over half the match with ten men. Manu Herrera had to be at his best to save from Ander Gago in the first minute, but after that the local keeper was hardly troubled. With eight minutes to go to the break Javi Hernández was sent off for a second bookable offence, but on the stroke of half time Babín put the home side in front, beating Saizar following a short free kick. And after that Juan Antonio Anquela shut up shop to ensure three points which takes his side level with their opponents in the table.

Elche stay level with Alcorcón after a last minute 0-1 victory at Huesca, who themselves sink further down in to the relegation spots as a result. The Aragón based side have not won at home all season, but things appeared to swing in their favour when Héctor Verdés was shown a red card after clashing with Camacho on the stroke of half time. Camacho himself hit the post with an inswinging corner after the interval, but with the game in the third minute of injury time Acciari got the winner for the visitors from a corner.

Recreativo are now just a point above the bottom four pending Sunday's matches after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Numancia, their seventh game in a row without a win. All the goals came in the last twenty minutes, Fidel giving the locals the lead after Eduardo failed to hold on to a shot from Sergi Enrich. With ten minutes to go Borda turned a corner in to his own net, and Numancia's Juanjo headed against the woodwork twice in the next five minutes. However Recre should have won it when they were awarded a late penalty after Nano handled in the area, Eduardo guessing correctly to save Fidel's spot kick.

The draw takes Numancia five points clear of the drop zone, and Barcelona B move a point above them after a 1-0 victory over bottom club Gimnàstic. Carmoan got the only goal five minutes before the break, latching on to a loose ball after Rafinha was tackled, but Nàstic felt they should have had a penalty later on when Muniesa clearly handled in the area, and Oier did well to save from Xisco Campos late on. A third win in a row for Eusebio's side, but the visitors have yet to win, and coach Juan Carlos Oliva may be on his way very soon. (29.10.11)

Murcia came from behind to beat Cartagena 1-2 in their regional derby on Sunday lunchtime, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches. The locals had won their last two games though after their poor start to the season, and they came out full of confidence, Alvaro Anton testing Alberto a couple of times before finally beating him on the half hour mark. However Murcia equalised with virtually their first attempt on target, Jorge heading a Sutil free kick past Reina ten minutes after the restart, and a quarter of an hour later it was Cristian's turn to beat the keeper with another header from another Sutil free kick. The locals pushed for the equaliser, but any hope they had of saving a point disappeared when Dimas was sent off for bringing down Isaac as he advanced on goal near the end.

The win took Iñaki Alonso's side up in to the last play-off spot pending the rest of the day's games, although they were bumped out of it later in the day after Celta won 2-3 at Villarreal B. The Galicians got off to the best possible start, Bermejo turning in a De Lucas cross in the first minute. Two goals from second division top scorer Joselu, turned the scoreline around by the break though, the first from Pere's cross and the second after beating the offside trap, and only a good save from Yoel prevented the striker from completing a hat-trick. But with ten minutes to go Iago Aspas levelled the scores again following a De Lucas free kick, and with the game in injury time Orellana set up Aspas again to score the winner.

Deportivo also got above Murcia after a 3-2 win over Girona in the last game of the weekend, although they stay out of the top six as both Valladolid and Las Palmas have a better goal difference. José Luis Oltra's side found themselves behind in only the fifth minute when Nieto beat Aranzubia from a wide angle, but midway through the first half Riki fired home the equaliser after Valerón picked up a loose pass in midfield. Riki missed a good chance and Colotto hit the bar after the restart, but Lassad finished off a quick passing move to put the Galicians in front, and Laure made it three after a shot from Guardado came back off the post. Corominas did get another one back from the penalty spot with eigth minutes to go after Ayoze pulled him down in the area, but it was not enough to prevent another defeat which left the Catalans still down in the relegation spots.
