Málaga hold on to third spot after a 0-0 draw at Espanyol's Cornellà stadium on Saturday evening. After the intense midweek battle with AC Milan, Pellegrini rested some of his more veteran players, with Joaquín and Saviola in particular starting on the bench. Even so they had the better chances if any in a fairly eventless first half, Duda testing Cristian Alvarez early on with a long shot, and Demichelis heading wide a couple of times. Forlín headed wide as well from a first half corner, and after the interval Wakaso missed the target and Caballero had no problems saving from Albín. Joaquín came on and caused a few problems down the wing, and Alvarez did well to turn an injury time Santa Cruz header away for a corner, but in the end a draw was a fair result.
