Valencia missed out on the fourth Champions League spot after a 4-3 defeat at Sevilla, and the Ches will have now have to make do with the Europa League as consolation. Needing to at least equal Real Sociedad's result in La Coruña, Valverde's side got off to the best possible start when Banega ran through to beat Palop and open the scoring. But things fell apart for the visitors in the last five minutes of the first half, Negredo equalizing with an acrobatic over head kick and then converting a penalty after Ricardo Costa pushed over Perotti, and referee Clos Gómez sending off Jonas for a foul on Moreno which the full back made the most of. Soldado did level the scores momentarily for his side after the restart, but Negredo scored two more in four minutes to take his tally for the match to four, and a second goal by Soldado near the end came too late to change the result. Valencia in to the Europa League, and they could even be joined by their hosts if the European bans for Málaga and Rayo are upheld.
