Zaragoza were relegated to the second division for the first time in four years after they lost 1-3 to Atlético Madrid on the last weekend of the season. Manolo Jiménez's side needed to win and hope that Deportivo and Celta didn't to stay up, and Víctor Rodríguez and Apoño tested Courtois early on as they pushed forward from the start. They quickly ran out of steam though, and Diego Costa came close to giving the visitors the lead with a couple of efforts either side of half time. By then Depor were losing but Celta were ahead, and with six minutes to go it appeared to be all over when Arda Turan cut in from the left wing to score. Postiga gave his team a faint hope when he equalised with a couple of minutes to go, but Atleti responded with two in a minute from Diego Costa, leaving the Maños at the foot of the table. After pre-match allegations of match-fixing, the frustrated home fans called for the resignation of maximum shareholder Agapito Iglesias, who they blamed for all their woes. A turbulent summer is in prospect.
