Almería will be joining Elche and Villarreal in the first division next season after they beat Girona 3-0 in the second leg of the play-off for the last promotion spot. Xavi Gracia's side had just missed out on the second of the direct promotion spots after losing to Villarreal on the last day of the season, but a goal up from last Wednesday's first leg they were optimistic of success at the second attempt. With seventeen minutes on the clock Aleix Vidal combined with Corona following a corner to put them further ahead, and they felt themselves unlucky not to have had a couple of penalties when second division top scorer Charles and Vidal were brought down in the area later in the first half. Five minutes after the restart however Iago Falqué lifted the ball past Luso to set up Charles for a second goal, and with twenty minutes to go the Brazilian striker scored his second of the night and his 32nd of the season after picking up a long clearance to run on past Isaac before rolling the ball in to an empty net. Almería return to the top flight after a two year absence, and the Catalans must be happy with their performance this season as well despite missing out on the chance of a first ever appearance at that level.
