Valencia ended the weekend three points below the European spots after they lost 1-0 at Rayo Vallecano in the last match on Sunday. Both sides rattled the woodwork early on, Paco Alcácer turning a centre on to the bar and Larrivey firing a shot against the upright soon afterwards. Alcácer and Larrivey both went close later in the first half, and Diego Alves almost gifted a goal to Bueno when he miskicked a clearance shortly before the break. Michel fired a free kick just wide of the post after the restart, but with just over an hour on the clock Larrivey got on the end of Rat’s long cross to head the ball down past Alves. The Ches felt they should have had a penalty when the ball hit Gálvez on the arm, but any hopes of a comeback ended when Barragán was sent off for a second bookable offence with a quarter of an hour to go. The win takes the Madrid based side to within three points of safety.
