Espanyol kept their hopes alive of European football next season with a 1-2 victory at Málaga on Tuesday evening. Sergio García gave the Catalans the lead on the half hour mark after picking up a return pass from Stuani, but just two minutes later Pablo Pérez ran on to a Santa Cruz through ball to equalize, Delgado Ferreiro waving away appeals for a clear offside. Caballero had to be at his best to keep out Pizzi and Sidnei before the break, and after the restart Casilla pulled off a good save from Amrabat. With a quarter of an hour to go though the referee turned down a good claim for a penalty on Santa Cruz by Héctor Moreno, and play went right up the other end, Sergio García setting up Pizzi for him to turn a shot inside the far post. Soon afterwards Málaga were left with ten men when Pérez picked up a second booking, and Pizzi came close to a third when Caballero turned his shot on to the post late on.
