Valencia ended the weekend in second spot, two points behind leaders Barcelona, after a 3-1 victory over Espanyol on Sunday evening. The Ches went ahead early on, Rodrigo laying the ball across for Piatti to beat Kiko Casilla in the seventh minute, and the keeper had to be on his toes to save from Paco Alcácer a few minutes later. Sergio García had a strike ruled out for a non-existent offside early in the second half, but Dani Parejo made it two soon afterwards when Rodrigo’s pass was only partly blocked, and Alcácer connected with Feghouli’s centre ten minutes later for the third. Sergio García did get a last minute consolation for the Catalans from the penalty spot after he was tripped by Javi Fuego, but it was not enough to prevent them from dropping in to the relegation zone.
