Rayo Vallecano still have an outside chance of a place in next season’s Europa League after a 2-0 win over neighbours Getafe on Monday evening, the result taking them to within five points of seventh placed Málaga. Paco Jémez was serving out a ban and had to watch the game from the stands, but he saw his side take the lead with just under half an hour gone when Manucho got on the end of Insúa’s deflected cross to turn the ball past Guaita. Zé Castro fired a shot just over the top early on in the second half, but Cobeño had to save from Escudero and Pedro León, and Juan Rodríguez felt himself unlucky to have a headed goal disallowed for a questionable offside. Substitute Miku made it two however with an angled shot after picking up a through ball from Trashorras, and Guaita had to save from Pozuelo a few minutes later. With three minutes to go Roberto Lago and Javier Aquino were both sent off for fighting after they clashed in the area, but by then Rayo had done enough for a victory which leaves their rivals down in fifteenth place, just five points above the drop zone.
