Valencia could have moved up into the Champions League spots had they been able to beat Las Palmas on Saturday evening, but in the end they were lucky to get away with a 1-1 draw as the Canary Islanders had the better chances later on. Paco Alcácer got on the end of an André Gomes cross to open the scoring in the eighth minute, but Jonathan Viera fired a couple of free kicks just wide of the mark, and Jaume Domenech had to be at his best to keep out Viera and Araujo before the break. With just under an hour gone Viera made it all square after controlling a pass from Tana, and although Alcácer and Santi Mina tried their luck after that, only a couple of first class saves by Domenech from Momo and Araujo prevented Quique Setien’s side from coming away with the three points. The result does though take the visitors out of the relegation spots pending Sunday’s games.
