Sporting Gijón will going down to the second division together with Granada and Osasuna even though they won 0-1 at Eibar on Sunday. A victory last weekend against Las Palmas had given the Asturians a slender life-line, although they needed at least one of their two closest rivals to fail to be able to stay up. After a shaky start Carmona had a strike ruled out for a borderline offside, and soon afterwards Burgui put them in front after picking up a pass from Moi Gómez. Duje Cop missed a couple of chances after the restart, and there were some nervous moments for the thousands of visiting fans, especially when Rivera hit the post later on, but in the end it was all in vain as news came in that Deportivo and Leganés had both drawn.
