Second Division - Day 21

One game on Friday night in the second division, Valladolid winning 0-1 at Cádiz to move up to fifth, within two points of their hosts in the table. Salvi headed against the bar early on, Ortuño putting the rebound wide, but a few minutes later the visitors took the lead with a long shot by Joan Jordán which went through the hands of Alberto Cifuentes. The visiting keeper made a good save from Matas before the break though, and his opposite number Becerra had to keep out a header from Rubén Cruz, but after the restart Paco Herrera’s side held fast to bring to an end the Andalusians’ run of four wins in a row. Sevilla Atlético stay in sixth spot pending Sunday’s games after a 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday afternoon. A strike by Ivi in only the second minute appeared to have given the youngsters a win until Embarba fired home the equalizer with two minutes left on the clock. Tenerife are now just a point behind the Sevilla B side after they won 1-0 against Zaragoza later in the evening, Germán heading the only goal from Omar’s corner with ten minutes to go, and Oviedo are a point below the Canary Islanders in eighth place after they beat Elche 2-1, second half strikes from Toché and Susaeta putting the Asturians two up before Nino headed one back for the visitors with a quarter of an hour to go. Further down the table Numancia distanced themselves from the danger zone with a 0-3 win at Mirandés, a Julio Alvarez penalty in the first half and an Alex Ortíz own goal and a late strike by Escassi after the break taking the Soria based side five points clear of their hosts. Mirandés stay in the relegation spots, above bottom two UCAM Murcia and Nàstic, who cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw. Luismi put the visitors ahead on the half hour mark, but Nono made it all square midway through the second half, and the Catalans ended with ten men after Uche was sent off a few minutes later. Girona remain in second spot though after they beat Córdoba 2-0, Sandaza putting them ahead with only two minutes gone, and Portu scoring the second some eight minutes in to the second half. The Catalans are now four points clear of third placed Getafe, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca in the mid-day kick-off. Lekic gave the visitors the lead in the twelfth minute, but Jorge Molina saved a point for the Madrid based team from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Juan Rodríguez late on. Only one point separates fifth from ninth place however, Lugo occupying the last of the play-off spots after a 1-0 win over Alcorcón, Pedraza getting the only goal on a quick breakaway with ten minutes to go, and Reus now in that ninth place after a 1-0 victory over Almería, Máyor the scorer from Angel’s cross with half an hour on the clock.
