Second Division - Day 25

Sevilla Atlético and Lugo drew 1-1 in this week’s Friday night game, a result which keeps the Galicians in the top six pending the rest of the weekend results, and leaves their hosts still three points below them in the table. Ignasi Miquel put the visitors ahead on a quick counter-attack midway through the second half, but substitute Marc Gual volleyed home an injury time equalizer to save a point for the youngsters. Levante have opened up a nine point gap at the top, and more importantly a massive fifteen point margin over the third placed sides, after a 0-1 victory at Zaragoza on Saturday evening. Roger got the only goal of the game some seven minutes before the break, poking a Morales centre past Irureta to leave his old team further adrift of the play-off spots. Meanwhile second placed Girona were held to a 0-0 draw at struggling Almería, and third placed Cádiz were beaten 3-2 at Getafe, who themselves move up level with the Andalusians in the table. Jorge Molina and Emi Buendía twice put the locals ahead in the first half hour of the game, but a Sankaré header and an Aketxe free kick pegged them back both times. However with the match in injury time visiting keeper Cifuentes brought down Gorosito in the area, and Molina stepped up to fire home the winner from the penalty spot. Further down the table Nàstic and Alcorcón drew 1-1, the Catalans ending the day still at the bottom of the table, and the Madrid based side some five points clear of the drop zone. Juan Delgado put the locals in front on the quarter hour mark, but new signing Bakic volleyed in the equalizer some twenty minutes later. (11.02.17)

The top four teams all played on Saturday, but fifth placed Tenerife stay two points below them after a 0-0 draw at Valladolid on Sunday evening. The locals had Juan Villar sent off for a second bookable offence with a quarter of an hour to go, but they held on for a tie which keeps them three points below their opponents in the table. Oviedo have now caught up with Tenerife after they won 0-2 at next to bottom club Mirandés, Both goals came from new signings, Saúl Berjón opening the scoring in the twentieth minute with a shot from the edge of the area, and David Costas getting the second after a Susaeta free kick fell to him on the hour mark. Numancia meanwhile are up to eighth, two points behind the Asturians, after a 1-0 victory over Reus. The two teams started the day level in the rankings, but Jairo got the only goal in the fifteenth minute to make it three wins in a row for the Soria based side.

Earlier in the day Huesca beat Córdoba 0-2 in the mid-day kick-off. Vadillo got both goals in the last quarter of an hour, the first after an assist from Samu Sáiz and the second with a lob over Kieszek to move to within a point of Reus in mid-table. Córdoba though drop in to the relegation spots, a point below UCAM Murcia, who drew 1-1 at Elche. The goals both came from the penalty spot, Nino putting the locals in front in the seventh minute, but Jona saving the day with the game in the third minute of injury time. Mallorca move above the Andalusians as well after a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano in the last match of the weekend, the win taking the islanders level with their opponents in the table. A Lago Junior strike and a Culio penalty put the locals two up in the first twenty minutes, but Alex Moreno headed one back just two minutes after the restart, and the result was in doubt until the final whistle.
