Second Division - Day 6

Match day six kicked off with a 3-0 victory for Almería against Sevilla Atlético which took the locals up to third, and left the visitors down in next to bottom spot. Morcillo got the first from the penalty spot after Pozo was fouled in the area on the stroke of half time, and Tino Costa headed the second before Pozo wrapped things up in injury time. (22.09.17)

Sporting Gijón moved to the top of the table pending the rest of the weekend games after a 1-0 win over Lorca on Saturday evening. Rubén García headed the only goal just before the break after Carmona’s penalty was saved to keep the Asturians a point above Tenerife, who are now second after beating Alcorcón 4-0. Juan Carlos opened the scoring with an early free kick and Longo made it two before the break, and Casadesús and Malbasic added two more after the restart. Osasuna are a point below the top six after they drew 0-0 at Reus, and Granada are two points behind them after a 3-1 victory over Córdoba, Machís scoring at the start of the first and second halves and Joselu netting a third before Sergi Guardiola got a late consolation for the visitors. Still all square at the top of the second division, and only one point separates seven teams after Sunday’s games. Valladolid were the first to miss out on a chance of leading the table after they were beaten 1-0 by Huesca in the mid-day kick-off, Melero getting the only goal before the break to take the locals away from the danger zone. Later in the day Cádiz and Numancia drew 0-0, the Andalusians holding on for a draw after Barral was sent off for a second bookable offence towards the end of the first half. And Cultural Leonesa stay a point below the leaders after they lost 3-1 to Rayo Vallecano, a goal from Emi Buendía cancelling out Trejo’s header, but a Raúl de Tomás penalty and a strike from Chori Domínguez after the break giving the Madrid based team the three points.

Further down the table Albacete picked up their first win of the season after beating Oviedo 2-1. Christian Fernández took advantage of a mistake by local keeper Dani Carvajal to put the visitors in front midway through the second half, but goals by Bela and Quim Araujo turned the scoreline around. The win takes the Manchegans off the bottom of the table above Sevilla Atlético, and saves the head of coach Aira for the time being. Zaragoza and Nástic are now just a point above Albacete after they drew 1-1 in the last game of the evening, Toquero heading the Maños into the lead in the eighth minute, but Maikel Mesa heading the equaliser late on after Borja Iglesias was sent off just before the interval. Aleñá fired the Catalans in to the lead on the half hour mark, but Azeez headed the equaliser on the stroke of half time, and Iriome scrambled a last minute winner to give the Galicians their third victory in a row.
