Second Division - Day 10

No sooner had week nine finished than week ten began, Sporting Gijón and Huesca playing out a 1-1 draw on Friday evening. Carmona gave the Asturians the lead at the start of the second half with a wide free kick which beat Remiro, but Gonzalo Melero made it all square from the penalty spot soon afterwards when Jordi Calavera brought down Vadillo from behind. The result takes Sporting joint top with Osasuna pending the rest of the weekend games, and leaves their opponents still two points behind them in the table. (13.10.17)

Numancia missed out on a chance to move to the top of the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Tenerife on Saturday, the result leaving them level on points with Sporting and with leaders Osasuna, who play tomorrow. Carlos Ruíz headed the Canary Islanders in to an early lead following a corner, but a few minutes later Guillermo made it all square from the penalty spot after Aitor Sanz fouled Carlos Gutiérrez in the area. Sanz was sent off for a second bookable offfence with only half an hour gone, but numbers were evened up when Dani Nieto picked up a straight red card for dangerous play with fifteen minutes left on the clock. Granada meanwhile are back up to the play-off spots after a 2-0 victory over Oviedo, Christian heading a corner in to his own net with only four minutes gone, and Joselu connecting with a centre from Raúl Baena to make it two at the start of the second half.

Cádiz and Cultural Leonesa drop further away from the top six however after they cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw. The Andalusians went two up in the first half, Carrillo running through to open the scoring in the twelfth minute, and Iván González turning a long Garrido cross in to his own net on the half hour mark. Josep Señé got one back however with an angled shot past Cfiuentes with twenty minutes to go, and Ariday saving a point after picking up Señé’s square pass near the end. Further down the table Barcelona B moved away from the danger zone after a 1-0 victory over Lorca, José Arnáiz cutting in from the left to force a shot past Torgnascoli midway through the second half. Osasuna hold on to top spot for another week after a 1-1 draw at Zaragoza in the last game on Sunday evening. Borja Iglesias gave the Maños the lead from the penalty spot after Fran Mérida fouled Buff in the area shortly before the break. However Oier headed in a corner with twenty minutes to go to save a point, and the locals ended with ten men after Pombo was sent off near the end. Three teams are within a point of Osasuna though, including Rayo Vallecano, who beat Reus 0-2 in the mid-day kick-off. Embarba started things off early on with an individualist goal, and Aguirre added the second after the interval to hand the Catalans their first home defeat of the season. Valladolid drop to fifth however after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Almería, Verza giving the locals the lead in only the first minute, but Mata levelling it from the penalty spot after Nauzet brought down Angel García in the area some ten minutes before half time. Almería’s Fidel was shown a red card for pushing an opponent in injury time.

Further down the table Nàstic moved out of the relegation spots after a resounding 1-5 win at Córdoba. Uche scored twice for the Catalans before Guardiola got one back, and with a quarter of an hour to go Tejera restored the two goal cushion. .Two minutes later Manu Barreiro made it four, and Barreira himself wrapped things up from the penalty spot after José Fernández fouled Delgado in injury time. The defeat leaves the Andalusians down in the bottom four, and coach Luis Carrión was fired not long after the game ended. Albacete are now a point above Córdoba after they beat bottom club Sevilla Atlético 2-1, their second home win in a row. César De la Hoz scored both goals for the Manchegans in the first twenty minutes, but Carlos Fernández got one back from Pozo’s cross midway through the second half, and in the end the visitors were unlucky not to save a point.
