Nothing decided as yet in the cup semi-finals, although Barcelona have the edge over Real Madrid after a 1-1 first leg draw in the Bernabeu stadium. Fàbregas got the vital away goal, but Varane headed the equaliser near the end. The second semi-final was all about penalties, with Atlético Madrid beating Sevilla 2-1. Diego Costa converted both of Atlético's, with Negredo replying for the Andalusians. Second legs are in a month's time.

So to the weekend, and Messi extended his incredible record to twelve consecutive league games after converting a penalty in a 1-1 draw at Valencia on Sunday evening. His closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo also got his name on the scoresheet on Saturday, but for the first time in his career it was on the wrong side of the line as the defending champions fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat at Granada. Oh well, at least he can now say that he has scored against every team in the first division! Falcao didn't manage to find the net on his return to the side following an injury lay-off, but his replacement Diego Costa did to round off a good week for the Brazilian striker. And Negredo was also on target again in Sevilla's 2-1 win over Rayo to celebrate his return to the Spanish side. After much speculation it was Isco who also got the nod from Del Bosque ahead of the likes of Iago Aspas, Michu, Rubén Castro and Aduríz, and he too celebrated with a goal, albeit that his penalty was only enough to save a 1-1 draw against Zaragoza after Postiga had given the visitors the lead. Susaeta didn't make the squad this time though despite scoring on his debut, but he was happy enough to get the goal that saved a point for Athletic at Valladolid. Elsewhere Carlos Vela got one of Real Sociedad's three in their win against Mallorca, but a Pizzi penalty and a Martins strike were not enough to save Deportivo and Levante from defeats at Getafe and Espanyol respectively.
