This week's fixtures were dominated by the "double-header" between Barcelona and Real Madrid, the first the cup semi-final in the Nou Camp, and the second the league fixture on Saturday in the Bernabeu. And for once Madrid won both games, filling Mourinho's side full of confidence for the upcoming Champions League tie in Old Trafford, and leaving Barça reeling after three defeats in four games (there is an old adage in Spain which says that the crisis in football flies about on the air-shuttle between Barcelona and Madrid, and right now it is firmly grounded at the El Prat airport!).

Cristiano Ronaldo was once again the hero in the cup, his brace helping his side on to a 1-3 victory, and he has now scored in his last six visits to the Nou Camp. On Saturday however the goals came from Benzema and Ramos, with Messi getting one in between to take his tally for the season to 50 goals. It was little consolation though that he extended his continuous scoring record in the league to sixteen games, or that he equalled Di Stéfano's all time record in "clásicos" between the two sides to eighteen goals.

Hard to believe, but life went on in the rest of planet Earth! Real Madrid's opponents in the cup final will be their city neighbours Atlético, who drew 2-2 at Sevilla on Wednesday evening to go through 4-3 on aggregate. It wasn't as close as it sounds though, Diego Costa opening the scoring and then setting up Falcao for a second, leaving the Andalusians needing four to turn things around. Navas got one back before the break and Rakitic another near the end, but the result was never really in doubt after those early goals.

A low scoring weekend in the league though, at least until the last two games, Vela and Molina on target in a 3-3 draw between Real Sociedad and Betis on Sunday night, and Negredo helping himself to a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory against Celta on Monday. Strikes from Jonas and Soldado appeared to have given Valencia a victory over city neighbours Levante before JIM's team saved a point in the last minute, and Susaeta and Hemed got much needed winners for Athletic Bilbao and Mallorca in their respective visits to Osasuna and Granada.
