Real Madrid closed to within two points of Barcelona after Luis Enrique’s side were held to a 2-2 draw at Sevilla on Saturday. Strikes by Messi and Neymar in the first half hour seemed to have wrapped things up for the Catalans, but Banega got one back soon afterwards, and Gameiro equalized near the end. Madrid had beaten Eibar 3-0 earlier in the day, Ronaldo opening the scoring from a free kick, and Chicharito and Jesé taking advantage of rare starts to get on the scoresheet. Atlético Madrid also drew 2-2 at Málaga, Griezmann getting both goals for Simeone’s side, and Valencia are now just a point behind them after a 3-0 win over city neighbours on Monday, Paco Alcácer starting things off for the Ches. Meanwhile Espanyol kept their hopes of reaching the European spots alive with a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, Sergio García the scorer there, and Celta are only two points behind the Catalans after thrashing Rayo Vallecano 6-1, Larrivey netting twice, and 19 year old Santi Mina helping himself to four to write his name into the record books. Curiously the youngster had only scored a couple of goals in the cup this season, and had yet to get off the mark in the league! (14.04.15)
