The big news this weekend was the injury to Leo Messi in the tenth minute of Barcelona’s match against Las Palmas, early reports being that he will be out for up to two months with a serious knee ligament problem. In his absence it was left to Luis Suárez to find the net, the Uruguayan striker getting both goals in a 2-1 victory which takes Luis Enrique’s side back up to second. Messi’s arch-rival Ronaldo didn’t score though as Real Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw by Málaga, which allowed Villarreal to move to the top of the table for the first time in their history after a 1-0 victory over Atlético Madrid. Atleti will not be happy though that the only goal was scored by their own player, Leo Baptistao on loan with the East coast club this season! Celta meanwhile are still fourth after they drew 1-1 at Eibar, Iago Aspas saving a point after Borja Bastón (another on-loan Atleti player) had given the Basque team the lead. Deportivo are now sixth, Lucas Pérez picking up a brace in a 3-0 win over Espanyol, and Betis are in to the top half of the table after a 1-2 victory at Sporting, veterans Joaquín and Rubén Castro getting the goals for the Andalusians. Elsewhere Betis’s neighbours Sevilla are off the bottom of the table, Gameiro and Konoplyanka on target in a 3-2 win against Rayo, with Javi Guerra getting one back for the visitors. (28.09.15)
