A weird start to the season this year, with a record 40 goals on the opening weekend, but only 17 on week two, and that included five by our surprise new leaders Las Palmas! The Canary Islanders hammered Granada 5-1, with two from El Zhar and with Kevin-Prince Boateng also amongst the scorers, and they now have three players in our Pichichi chart! Are they going to be Spain’s Leicester City this season?!? Otherwise the only player to score more than once was Espanyol’s Gerard Moreno, the ex Villarreal striker getting both goals in a 2-2 draw against Málaga, and none of last week’s top scorers added to their tally. Only one other match this week elsewhere, Villarreal knocked out of the Champions League after losing 1-0 at Monaco in the second leg of their play-off round. They will still be playing in Europe this year however as they drop down to the Europa League. (29.08.16)
