Little did we think when Las Palmas and Espanyol opened the week eight fixtures on Friday with a 0-0 draw that we were in for a record weekend. However on Saturday the four Champions League sides clocked up twenty goals between them, and by the end of Monday the ball had found the back of the net no less than 44 times in all. Atlético stay at the top of the table after they hit Granada for seven, Carrasco starting things off with his first ever hat-trick, and Correa also on the scoresheet (but not Griezmann, Gameiro or Fernando Torres!). Real Madrid are level with their city neighbours though after they slammed a “set” past Betis, Benzema and Ronaldo amongst the scorers, and Barcelona put four past Deportivo, Rafinha netting twice, Luis Suárez adding the third, and Messi coming on after his injury lay-off and taking just three minutes to find his scoring boots.

Sevilla meanwhile beat Leganés 2-3, Franco Vázquez starting things off, but Szymanowski seemingly saving a point for the locals before Sarabia got a late winner, and on Sunday Villarreal clocked up five against Celta, Bakambu getting his first of the season there. Aduríz meanwhile got his fifth of the current campaign in a 3-2 win over Basque rivals Real Sociedad, Mario Suárez scored both goals for Valencia against his dad’s home town team Sporting, and Deyverson netted for Alavés in a 1-1 draw against Málaga. And on Monday night Eibar and Osasuna shared five goals to take us to that record tally, Sergio León helping himself to a brace and Roberto Torres also scoring to give the Pamplona based side their first victory of the season.
