Both cup semi-final first legs ended in ties this week, leaving everything for the return games next month. First up was another “clásico”, with Real Madrid coming away from Barcelona’s Nou Camp with a 1-1 draw, and the following day Betis and Valencia also drew 2-2. None of our Pichichis were on the scoresheet in either game though.

Real Madrid rounded off a good week with a 1-3 win at neighbours Atlético on Saturday, Sergio Ramos converting his eighth penalty of the season and Bale also on target, and Griezmann scoring for the hosts. The result takes Solari’s side above their city rivals to second, now six points behind Barcelona after they could only draw 0-0 in Bilbao. Elsewhere Ben Yedder and Sarabia scored late goals to save a 2-2 draw for 10 man Sevilla against Eibar, En-Nesyri became the first Leganés player to get a hat-trick in the top flight when he scored all three goals against Betis, and Mata scored two and set up Jorge Molina for a third as Getafe beat Celta 3-1 to close in on the Champions League places.
