Only three red cards this weekend, and all came in the match between Barcelona and Sevilla. Barça's trainer Altamira was the first to go at half time for complaining about possible time-wasting by the visiting keeper, but the real fun and games only started when Barça were awarded an injury time penalty after Fazio brought down Iniesta. Having survived the onslaught for 92 minutes the visiting players were furious, and a ratty Kanouté kicked the ball away from the penalty spot after Messi had lined it up. That earned him a yellow card, but as he sulked away Fàbregas said something to him, and Kanouté took offence and grabbed him by the neck. What he said hasn't been reported as yet, but we suspect it had something to do with the fact that Kanouté was at Tottenham and Cesc at Arsenal! Whatever the case they have since kissed and made up, but Kanouté was shown a red and Fàbregas a yellow for the incident. All of that put Messi off enough for Varas to save his spot kick, but in a last gasp effort by the Blaugrana, Navarro picked up a second booking for a foul, getting shown a third yellow card for refusing to leave the pitch. Luckily things ended seconds later, and there were no further incidents. Otherwise players were well behaved, although Javi Márquez (Espanyol), Chico (Mallorca) and Casado (Rayo) all picked up their fifth bookings of the season. Márquez was subsequently let off his by the disciplinary committee, but the other two will have to sit out the midweek round of games. (25.10.11)
