One rescheduled match midweek, Betis ending their match against Atlético Madrid with nine men after new signings Perquis and Joel Campbell were both sent off. Perquis got his marching orders for giving away a penalty on Falcao early in the second half, and Campbell was sent down the tunnel to join him after picking up a rigorous second yellow card with a quarter of an hour to go. Needless to say Betis lost 2-4 in the end.

It was not Betis's week however, and the Andalusians also had their keeper Casto sent off in the eleventh minute of Saturday's game at Málaga after he gave away a penalty on Eliseu. Valencia and Athletic Bilbao were also left with ten men in their respective games on Saturday after Feghouli and Amorebieta were both sent off for second bookable offences, and our top villain from last season, Gary Medel, was sent for an early bath in Sevilla's match against Barcelona for retaliating after clashing with Cesc Fàbregas. Cesc did put it on a bit though, and Sevilla coach Michel was also sent to the stands for insulting the officials later on (although he denied that he said what the referee put in his report). Sevilla will also be without Rakitic for next weekend's fixtures after the midfielder picked up his fifth booking of the current campaign, the first player to do so this season. No red cards on Sunday, but there was one for Mallorca's Ximo Navarro for a hard tackle on Getafe's Diego Castro in only the tenth minute of their Monday night match. (03.10.12)

PS Although the disciplinary committee agreed that Fàbregas had exaggerated the incident, Medel was still suspended for two games, as was his boss Michel. Valencia's Feghouli picked up a three match suspension too, one for the sending off and two more for "ironically applauding the referee as he left the field". Players will have to be careful about not doing that in the future!. (05.10.12)
