A season high eight red cards this weekend, with three of those coming in the match between Zaragoza and Getafe. The first was for Romaric for a hard tackle on Lacen in only the eighth minute, probably justified, but the second for Alvaro was more than questionable, Pedro León seemingly clear of the defender and losing control of the ball before he conveniently fell in the area. Whatever the case, Zaragoza were left with nine men, and although Abdel Barrada was also red-carded later on, that penalty was the difference between the two teams. There was a similar incident at Mallorca as well, with Nsue getting his marching orders after giving away a penalty on Granada's Torje. Again the red card was a bit harsh but probably correct, although the incident started well outside of the penalty area, and it should only have been a free kick. Numbers were evened up soon afterwards when Brahimi was given a second booking, but the penalty decided the match, and Mallorca's frustrated assistant coach Luciano Martín was also shown a red card near the end for throwing a ball on to the pitch "without the referee's permission"! Elsewhere Betis defender Mario was sent off for a second bookable offence near the end of the game against Real Sociedad, and Espanyol's Víctor Alvarez left his team with ten men for over half of the match after he picked up a second yellow card at Valladolid just before the half time whistle. All the above will be joined on the sidelines when action resumes in two weeks' time by Gurpegui (Athletic), Beñat (Betis) and Botía (Sevilla), who were all given their fifth yellow cards of the season.
